Tranquility of Water

Water - is essential to life. Water water everywhere! This past year has been hard for many. We have had so many disasters; (floods, monsoon flash floods & hurricanes ) in addition to Covid 19 . Unfortunately water can ruin people lives and even cause death. And we have the extreme issues of global warming and water. It has been said that countries without adequate water have more wars.

Another Artist asked me “ do you just love water” and I said , “yes, I never tire of looking at water”. I never tire of painting water with bright blues and movement. It is both soothing ,comforting and relaxing.

However, we can not survive with out water to fight fires, drink, cook., to care for patients, to paint, to bathe, to wash our fruits and vegetables, to take our meds, etc…. One might say it is very essential to life. Even though it can cause chaos we still need it.

One of my favorite things to do is sit and look at beautiful, Hawaiian oceans or watch it rain. Just the sound of it is relaxing and peaceful to me. They say that water has its own memory and spirit. Who does not love a warm shower or hot soak after a long difficult day. I can’t paint my art without water. So we better take care of it. Water is soothing , calming, makes me feel serene unless it is acting widely and haphazardly. All kids like to jump in watery mud puddles after a rain. Better yet they like to walk out in the rain.

I get to observe the water change during the day it is vigorous, then calm, then quiet, then loud it is always moving just like the earth . I love to watch sail boats which require the wind and the water in order to work properly. That “awe” feeling you get with the wind on your face and little splashes of water to your skin while sitting on a catamaran are so wonderful.

Water is god’s tranquilizer at times, it is also our refuge when needed. Swimming in water can be both, invigorating and calming at the same time. Being in water gives me peace.

I have always like swimming and spent most of my childhood days in water. Then I taught others how to swim. I hope that we always have water and that voracious appetite you get after a really good swim.
